House, shop, others razed as fuel tanker causes inferno in Enugu

Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has promised to compensate victims of a fire outbreak that destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Ugwuanyi disclosed this on Monday while on a condolence visit to the victims at the scene of the disaster.

Recalled that the fire which occurred on Monday affected a petrol station along Nike Road by Penoks Junction in Trans Ekulu, Enugu.

A commercial bus, a transformer, three shops and a residential building were also affected but no life was lost.

According to eyewitnesses, the inferno started when a truck discharging liquefied gas at the filling station lost control and hit the dispensing nozzle and ignited the fire.

The Gov. also thanked the people in the neighbourhood for their cooperation.

While sympathizing with the victims, he promised to take immediate action to ameliorate the pains and replace the burnt transformer for the people of the area to continue to enjoy power supply.

“I am now convinced more than ever before that Enugu State is truly in the hands of God,” Ugwuanyi said.

Earlier, the State Fire Officer, Mr. Okwudili Oha, disclosed that the fire outbreak was massive, pointing out that it would have done serious damage but for their quick intervention.

Oha thanked the residents of the area for their support and cooperation while the struggle to put off the fire lasted.

He commended the governor for equipping and repositioning the establishment.

Oha, therefore, appealed to the public to take precautionary measures and be vigilant to avert further fire outbreak in the state, especially during the dry season.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have commended the governor for his efforts in repositioning the State Fire Service which has led to improved response during emergency situations.
