Three men have been arrested by police authorities in the capital Juba, for firing guns randomly into the air to celebrate the New Year.

Police authorities warned residents against the dangerous practice of shooting off guns to celebrate Christmas and the New Year and also warned of criminal charges against those who will violate the order last week.

Police spokesman Daniel Justin told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the officers immediately stopped and arrested three persons for shooting randomly in the air.

He pointed out that an investigation was underway.

Justin noted that Juba celebrated a generally peaceful New Year’s Eve with no major incidents. He attributed it to the government’s plan to provide security in the country.
