Niger Police arrest 4 for alleged murder, kidnapping

The Niger Police command has nabbed two suspects for allegedly killing their wives in Gurara and Mariga local government areas of the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammadu Abubakar, said one of the suspects murdered his wife by stabbing her on the chest with a knife for going out with  her ex-boyfriend.

Similarly, he said detectives attached to Bangi division in Mariga Local Government Area arrested another suspect at Hunyu village for also killing his wife.

“Investigation revealed that the deceased of the same address, left her matrimonial home over a misunderstanding and was allegedly chased by the husband in a bid to return her but she refused.

“The husband used a machete on the neck of the deceased which resulted to her death.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court,” he said.

Also, police operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping unit in Bosso Division arrested two suspects at Sarkin Pawa in Munya Local Government and Tunga in  Chanchaga area for alleged kidnapping.

He said in December 2018, one Usman Alfa of Beji town reported at Bosso division that his wife, Habiba Usman, left home on Dec. 26, 2018 to go to the General Hospital, Minna for medical checkup but never returned.

The police spokesman said Alfa later received an anonymous call demanding for N4 million as ransom before she would be released.

“The gang received N150,000 before she was set free.

“In the course of investigation, it was revealed that the victim conspired with the duo and masterminded her kidnap in order to get money from her husband.

“The sum of N140,850 was recovered from the  suspects. The case is under investigation and will be charged to court after investigation.”

Abubakar appealed to residents to assist the command with intelligence information to pave way for the arrest and prosecution of miscreants in their midst.
