Appointment of new prime minister by Burkina Faso president

Burkina Faso’s president appoints a new prime minister on Monday, three days after the disbelief resignation of the West African nation’s government.

President Roch Kabore selected Christophe Dabire, a former Commissioner for the West African Economic and Monetary Union.

 Christoophe Dabire was also formerly the Health Minister, Secondary Education Minister and President of the National Assembly’s finance and budget committee.

He is a veteran economist and proficient politician, is expected to appoint a new cabinet in the next few days.

His antecedent, Paul Kaba Thieba, and his ministers gave no reasons for the cabinet’s resignation on January 18.

In Burkina Faso, which borders the Sahel region in the North, attacks by alleged militants have become increasingly frequent.

Burkina Faso is  said to be one of the poorest countries in the world, according to a UN index.
