South Africa Sold Arms Valued Around R1.7 Billion between April and June, 2013

The National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC) in South Africa has disclosed that a total of R1.7 billion was generated from arms sold to various countries by the country over the past few months, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

According to the report, most of the arms were exported to Sweden and United States.

Speaking during the presentation of the report, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe, who is also chairman of the NCACC disclosed that the biggest sale which worth $R555 million went to Sweden, while the next biggest sale went to Thailand which spent R 505 million, and USA came third with R 375 million. Azerbaijan and Finland were included in the list with R131 million and R129 million respectively. This report is for arms sold between April and June this year.

Sources also disclosed that equipments were sold to Syria, while United Nations (UN) got equipments worth R26 million, Egypt was sold arms worth R26 million, United Arab Emirates, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Germany And Pakistan were sold arms worth R113 Million, R46 Million, R61 million, R56.4 million and R.45.2 million respectively.
