At least three people were on Friday confirmed dead while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injury in an auto accident involving a white Mazda bus and a truck at Sowo village in Ogun State on Friday.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the state’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement on Saturday confirmed the incident.
Akinbiyi said the accident occurred around 7.30pm and was caused by the truck driver who was making a U-turn before the commercial bus rammed into it.
He said, “The commercial bus with registration number AAA 45 XS left Kuto Park in Abeokuta and was heading for Ketu in Lagos through the Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Sagamu/Interchange Expressway when the accident occurred.
“The truck with registration number XS 764 AGL caused the accident by making an illegal U-turn and with no illumination (full light) to indicate that a vehicle is making a U-turn, before the bus ram into it.”
He added, “Fourteen passengers were in the bus, eight female and six male. Three men died while eight women and three men sustained varying degrees of injury.”
Akinbiyi said those injured in the crash had been receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, General Hospital, Ijaiye, and Joseph /Christianah Hospital, Oke-Ilewo, all in Abeokuta.
He added that the dead bodies were deposited at the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
He, however, said the driver of the truck fled after the crash.
