Production designers behind Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians were among the top honorees at the 2019 Art Directors Guild Awards.
The Marvel superhero blockbuster earned the Fantasy Film prize for production designer Hannah Beachler, while Crazy Rich Asians’ Nelson Coates triumphed in the Contemporary Film category according to WENN.
Isle of Dogs claimed the Animated Film accolade, while The Favorite landed the Period Film award at the Los Angeles prizegiving, which recognizes excellence in production design.
In the TV categories, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won the One-hour Period or Fantasy Single-camera Series, Glow picked up the honor for Half Hour Single-Camera Series, and The Handmaid’s Tale earned the One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series title.
Meanwhile, Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall received the ADG Cinematic Imagery Award for his career achievements at Saturday’s event, while 2001: A Space Odyssey production designer Anthony Masters and pioneering French artist Benjamin Carre were both inducted posthumously into the ADG Hall of Fame.
