Rwandan President, Paul Kagame on Sunday bowed out as the Chairman of the African Union, AU after the completion of his tenure in Addis ababa. As part of his final functions as AU Chairman, Kagame welcomed DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and Madagascar President-Elect, Andry Rajoelina to the African Union.
Kagame's leadership of the AU focused on institutional and administrative reforms while also placing emphasis on the development of national languages as a tool for African integration and development. Kagame handed over the reins of leadership of the body to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
In his speech the incoming AU Chairman, President Sisi stated his commitment to reinforce , support and bring more to what his predecessor Paul Kagame has initiated. He acknowledged the monumental achievements of his predecessor promising to build on the foundation already laid by the departing Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Mr Kagame, takes over from his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, as the Chairman of the East African Community (ECA).
The regional body is made up of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
