Nigeria 2019 Elections -Ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu has stated for the umpteenth time that the force is ready to oversee a peaceful conduct of the exercise.

He stated this during a press briefing to address the level of preparedness of the force ahead of the election on Friday in Ibadan. CP Olukolu said,

“The Oyo state Police Command is prepared to ensure that the entire citizenry of Oyo state go out tomorrow during the Presidential and National Assembly elections to perform their civic responsibilities without any fear as sufficient security measures have been emplaced to ensure that voters get to the polling units, having no fear or worry at all.

Police men and other security agencies have been deployed to ensure that the voting materials and INEC officials are adequately protected during this exercise. We have also provided police patrol teams in areas regarded as flashpoints; hence, people need not fear for any reason.

As responsible people, they should just troop out en masse to gladly perform their

expected civic responsibilities. “In event of emergencies or any breach of peace in any area that may calls for the need of quick deployment of personnel, we have patrol teams around and everywhere.

We also have patrol team on hand at the state headquarters to assist those that are on the field. The joint operation room is operational and is out to serve all members of the public.”

He added that the police are working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure that there are no crises when the exercise is on.

CP Olukolu sounded a note of warning to anyone or group with the intention of causing a breach of peace during the elections that the force will deal decisively with such. “For those who think they can disrupt the exercise, adequate measures have been put in places to ensure they are beaten to their game. If they are arrested, they will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“To the politicians, let me use  this opportunity to appeal to you to play according to the rules. We all have roles to play to ensure that there is a hitch-free voting come Saturday, February 23rd,” he stated.
