From L-R Soumaila Cisse(URD) and Ibrahim Keita (RPM)
From Bamako, the capital city of Mali, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the Presidential run-off election has been concluded and counting is underway. The votes went on smoothly throughout the country despite early morning downpour.
People are already anticipating the result as most of them gathered round their polling units to monitor the counting and collation underway.
One of them, Yacouba Konate, said "we need to be the eyes and ears of our candidate. Mali needs change. This country belongs to us, the young people, and it was up to us to show it, to motivate people to come out and vote."
However, observers acknowledged that the election witnessed low turnout of voters, which they thought could be caused by the early rain.
Sources disclosed that Presidential candidate Soumaila Cisse is a technocrat from Timbuktu in the north. His campaign has focused on economic recovery. He faces candidate Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, a one-time prime minister and former National Assembly president from the south.
Although Keita appears to be the frontrunner due to the lead he had in the first round, the run-off could produce an upset since the first round result adds nothing to the second round.
Election authorities have until Friday to announce results from Sunday's run-off.
