Following the wake of the murder of Honourable Olatoye Temitope Sugar on Saturday and the collation of the Governorship elections on Sunday, unconfirmed and unsubstantiated reports originating from the social media have surfaced about the demise of certain individuals in Oyo state.
The ‘victims’ include the wives of Auxiliary and Senator Teslim Folarin, Baale Akinyele, Alubankudi, the mother of a popular musician, Taye Currency among many others.
The reports went on to say residents in Ibadan were to stay indoors and to avoid volatile areas.
In a communiqué issued by the Commissioner of Police of the Oyo state command, CP Shina T. Olukolu, he described the reports as uncorroborated, frivolous, unethical social media that appear to being contrived to cause panic, confusion, and pandemonium with a view of causing public disorder.
He went on to appeal to ‘critical stakeholders in the media’ to ensure that stories that come across the board are crosschecked and confirmed before any means of publication is carried out.
The people of Oyo state were further encouraged to carry on with their lawful and normal duties and business without any reason for fear and intimidation from any quarters.
He concluded that security in the state is a collective responsibility and that the people must partner with security agencies to ensure good service delivery to the community.
With the elections now over and winner announced, it is expected that calm will be restored to the state.
