Mozambique President, Armando Guebuza
A report from Mozambique disclosed that the country is planning to construct new rail lines aimed at moving coal from Tete to the Indian Ocean, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
Speaking at a rally in the locality of Vila Nova de Fronteira, Mozambican President Armando Guebuza said that the new railway lines, which will cross Mutarara district, in the western province of Tete, will inspire new socio-economic development to the area.
It was further gathered that the mining companies currently export their coal along the Sena line to the port of Beira. But the railway cannot handle more than around six million tonnes of cargo a year, and within a few years it is hoped that up to 100 million tonnes a year will be exported from the Moatize coal basin.
The new railway lines will improve the living condition of the Mutarara residents as most of them would be directly or indirectly linked to the major mining and transport projects.
Furthermore, the President urged the people to embrace peace and tranquility, “Our mission is to ensure that development continues and so we must continue to hold onto peace, because it is peace that will allow us to emerge from poverty,” he said.
