‘THAT I MAY KNOW‘! What readily comes to the scriptural mind at the first sight of this phrase is the popular Biblical quote in Philippians 3:10. But having to know that the phrase is a topic for a university inaugural lecture set one to pause and wonder if the academic community has jettisoned science for religion. Has an ebullient professor of psychology gone psycho-spiritual?
The development of an academic discipline is always a subject of debate. For a topic like this, several aspects need to be present: a set of values and beliefs, specific knowledge domain, tradition, method of enquiry and a scholarly community.
.Necessary preparations have now been concluded for the maiden lecture which promises to live up to the pre-event hype. All attention will be on the present Dean, Faculty of The Social Sciences, University of Ibadan who would be breaking into bits psychology as a traditional academic discipline on its own right and what he wants to profess as a scholar with the topic ' THAT I MAY KNOW'
For the 447th Inaugural Lecture in the University of Ibadan, the guest lecturer, Professor P.O Olapegba is a Fellow of Nigerian Psychological Association Member, Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators from the Psychology Department, Faculty of the Social Sciences .
The erudite professor is going to dwell on this unique topic as it relates to psychology as a traditional academic discipline on its own right. The Inaugural Lecture is scheduled for Thursday, 28th March, 2019, 5.00pm, at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan
Dignitaries expected to attend the event include; the Vice chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor A.I Olayinka, who will also be the Chairman of the occasion, Social Scientist from all works of life, the academia, and the general public .
The occasion is not only going to mark the mileage of Professor P.O Olapegba’s scholarly journey, but also create a rear opportunity to hear first-hand about his current researches.
