The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu upon a distress call received from the managemnet of The Polytechnic Ibadan swift into action by deploying  officers and men of the  Command  to calm the  student unrest in the institution.

The CP disclosed this while fielding questions with reporters in his office at  State  Police Command , Eleyele, Ibadan ,Oyo state Nigeria.

According to him, there was a distress call from the management of the institution early Thursday morning calling on the State Police Command for assistance, to help the management put the situation under control.

He further hinted that the crisis was instigated by some students following an interdepartmental football match in which one of the players was injured and this created a rancor between the two teams involved.

“I received a report early this morning saying that the student had issues among themselves. Following the football match during which a student was alleged to be slightly injured and the opposing side decided this morning that they are not going to take it that way, that they want a redress.

“The school authority started talking to them and when the police got the information, I deployed the police men around the school, the Area commander led the team and the DPO sango with the Police men from other formations to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order”.

“Currently, the police are on top of the matter with a very senior officer in  charge informing the Student through loud speakers that the school is on semester break rather than embarking on actions  that will disturb the public peace, we advice them and appeal to them to allow peace to reign and vacate the school premises”.

The CP further stated, that the Management of the School has declared abruptly a few days of break starting from April 4th – 10th April to help the student calm their nerves and come to school refreshed and to aid the management calm the situation.

He said: “Shortly , the management also wrote to the Police inviting them to ensure that the student vacate the premises of the school and declared a mid-semester break from Thursday 4th April,2019 to Wednesday 10th  April 2019.

“I have deployed some of my men to move around with loud speakers and announce the decision of the school Management,” he added.

The CP therefore call on parents and guardians to advice their wards not to engage in any act that will endanger their future.

“The Police understands that the persons involved are youth and will want to exhibit their youthful energy in whatever way they deem necessary. But the Police will frown at any action beyond the limit of the law and will take due actions," he added.
