 Oyo State CP addresses Officers, urge them to be of good conduct

It was indeed an interesting lecture delivered by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu to the Police Officers in Moniya Divisional Area Command, Ibadan, Oyo state capital, as he displayed a proficient lecture skill to educate the State Police personnel on what is expected from them.

CP Shina known for his crime fighting achievements again re-energised the Nigeria police in the state, while encouraging them to keep up the good work and desist from any negative act.

“To the personnel, let me start by encouraging you to continue dedicating yourselves to your responsibilities as police officers who have chosen the career to protect lives and properties that is our constitutional responsibilities,” he said.

He charged the officer to be dedicated in their duties without necessarily waiting for the DPO’s, Commissioners to remind them of their jobs. While warning them to desist from rumours and rumour mongers, urged them to also be civil to the public.

According to him when an individual is arrested, such person remains a suspect and still has his or her right until when tried and convicted by the law; hence, he admonish them to threat  suspects with respect.

“Remember that even when you have arrested a suspect, under our laws the rules and regulation that is guiding our job; the suspect still has his or her own right; and one of the principles of the Inspector General of police is respect for human rights.”

“Do not engage in unlawful arrest or unlawful detention.If there is need for you to detain anybody, approach the court and get the court order to detain that person or the people concern, for the period you think you’ll be able to conclude the investigation. 

“Part of our constitutional responsibility is to arrest offenders, investigate and diligent prosecute such suspect,” he added.

He encouraged his officers to always appear neat as that will determine how the public will perceive them.

Stating that; “When you are going for duty, dress well.The way you present yourself, is the way you will be addressed. Remember you and I are all public relation officers of the Police Force.Your activities, the way you interact with members of the public, will go a long way to change their perceptions about the Nigerian Police Force.”

While cautioning the police personnel to take care of their health, and also invest their money wisely, he also urged them to “grab opportunities with both hands as they come your way and make good use of them. Establish good cordial relationship with your fellow officers and neighbors because they will be the ones to help you out in times of casualties before your immediate family.”

While giving his vote of thanks, the Oyo State Police and Community Relations Officer, SP. Peter appreciated the CP for his endless efforts to fighting crime in Oyo state and it environ, especially before, during and after the general elections.

Commending the CP he said: “Sir you are a crime detector, a silent achiever, a man of principle who has left a good example for us to follow. We thank God for you.We will continue to give maximum support to you,” he added.
