Uganan President, Yoweri Museveni Sunday, chided a section of Ugandans who contend that his government “has done nothing” describing them as ingrates.

Museveni made the remarks at Kasangati during the launch of a book authored by Sheikh Sulaimani Lubega Ggugwa.

The event at Kyadondo sub county headquarters at Kasangati was graced by the luminaries of the Muslim community in Uganda and a number of cabinet ministers.

In his address to mostly youthful Ugandans, Museveni discussed a number of issues ranging from unemployment, governance and different facets of human rights in the country.

According to him, there was a time in the 1970s and early 1980s when Uganda was a no go area even for the most foolhardy and adventurous foreign travelers on account of its instability.

At the time, Uganda was known for churning out refugees washing up on different shores escaping turbulence at home.

With the guns finally falling silent in Northern Uganda following the defeat of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Movement a decade ago, Uganda is now an island of peace in the volatile Great Lakes Region and itself home to close to 1.4m refugees.

“For those above 40 years, its understandable because they don’t know where we got this country from. For those above 5o years, its inconceivable,” Museveni said.

The president drew parallels between his implacable detractors to the nine lepers in the Bible that Jesus healed but chose not to look for him and thank him.
