Oyo State, experienced a whopping loss on 9th of March, 2019 in respect to the ambush of a serving member of the Federal House of Representative, representing Lagelu/Akinyele constituency, Oyo State, Honourable Temitope Olatoye Sugar around Lalupon axis in Ibadan.
Honourable Temitope Olatoye is lionized for his liberal, benignant and humane acts across every sector in the community and the societal environs, which have been an avenue for rapid upturn and furtherance for the dwellers in the environment at large.
Sequel to this demise, a week decorous commemoration was masterminded, which started on 29th of April through 3rd of May, 2019.
The deceased was said to have indefinite projects to his name. In lieu of that, some of the projects, such as block of conveniences built at Durban Stadium Shopping Complex, and block of classrooms built at Aroro Makinde, Akinyele Local Government were commissioned in the different axes on the first day of the commemoration.
It’s such an ambience of despair for those transformational projects to be commissioned in the absence of the philanthropist who instituted them.
The deceased’s elder brother known as big daddy, who was the upfront of this commemoration said in his words, “It’s a pity that I am the one commissioning this today. My brother didn’t wait to do this”. This emotional outpour of grief was ended in a candle light procession later that day.
April 30, 2019, the commemoration was with the less privileged, having the attendance of Prince Paul Adelabu and Alhaji Ishmaila Salako, the former and current special adviser to the governor on people with disability respectively. Alongside Comrade Honourable Bolomope, the state chairman of the less privileged.
In the words of this trio, they acknowledged the impact Late Honourable Temitope Sugar took on the existence of the less privileged. And how ready he was towards the move to helping the needy.
On 1st of May, 2019, another history was been reiterated as Dr. Tunde Hamzat traced the memory lane of the similitude in the exact axis Honourable Temitope Sugar was shot on the set date of the ambush.
It’s recorded that icons in the history of Nigerian politics such as General Aguiyi Ironsi, General Adekunle Fajuyi, Chief Bola Ige and Honourable Olusegun Oladimeji were also murdered along the same axis of Lalupon which Honourable Temitope Sugar was shot on 9th of March, 2019, on the day of Oyo State governorship election.
In view of his lecture titled, “Sugar’s Death and Leadership; Recruitment process” given at the Banquet Hall in Premier Hotel, he elucidated that intellectual robbery and materialistic poverty aid the growth of this hiring. He concluded that “For Nigeria to be reinvented, she needs to be renegotiated”.
The Oyo State House of Assembly contributed to this commemoration with the organization of an honorary lying-in-state for the demise which was held on the 2nd of May, 2019.
The Speaker of the House, Honourable Olagunju Ojo and others gave their heartfelt tributes to their fellow colleagues who passed on.
Honourable Olusegun Olaleye in his tribute said “Six gone in the span of six years.” It’s on this note that it’s reiterated that six honourables have passed on within the span of six years, with honourable Temitope Sugar not left out.
However, it’s sought that no one should fight for vengeance. But rather take good care of the deceased’s wife and children. “I will start by paying the school fees of his two kids up to the university level” Honourable Olusegun Olaleye added.
Mr Dotun Olaleye, the deceased’s younger brother challenged Oyo State Government for not doing well as regards the yet to be revealed culprit behind his brother’s demise.
The deceased’s elder brother, Hon. Olatoye Olajide known as big daddy also sent a frank plea to Oyo State Governor through the stakeholders of the house to proffer solutions to the hidden murderers.
He said in his words “I know those who killed my brother...Please, tell all these perpetrators to back off”.
At the wake-keep held at Everlasting Hotel, people from far and wide gave tributes in commemoration of the deceased.
On 3rd of May, Honourable Temitope Sugar was buried in a tranquil premise at the outskirt of Everlasting hotel with the presence of the clerics, deceased’s wives, children, family members, friends and well-wishers.
It created an ambience of emotional disarray.
While fielding questions from CEOAfrica, the deceased’s elder brother said; “The police know their job. They shouldn’t be stopped from carrying out their action. Let Justice prevail. The state government should take steps in providing the culprits behind the death of my brother.”
