IGP Position is not feminine matter – DCOP Akrofi

Sequel to IGP David Asante Apeatu who is set to retire in three months, the republic of Ghana however has COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and COP Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri as some of the officers considered to fit in the position.

In respect to a woman’s utmost responsibilities in her home, as regards the care for her offspring and relatives, which tends to have effect on her profession as a police officer, DCOP Akrofi affirmed that IGP position is not a feminine affair. 

In his words, he stated that ladies are married. In which their allegiance in the home is incomparable to that of the men. Therefore, their homes will be very cardinal, which might be a form of intrusion to the profession at hand.

When asked if a woman should be the next IGP in Ghana via a mobile interrogation during 3FM’s Sunrise show in Accra, this former Greater Accra regional commander for the Ghana Police Service affirmed that IGP position is not a feminine matter.

DCOP Akrofi however affirmed that there’s nothing outrageous if Ghana has a woman as her IGP. In as much she has the required prowess for such position. More so, there are records of other countries who appointed women as their IGPs.

He added that “If they decide on a woman, fine; provided the lady can play down her family issues and pick the police work up. There is nothing wrong with it choosing a woman. It has happened in other countries.”

In his words, he affirmed that IGP’s position is a discerning one. “Sometimes, it is very sensitive when you put women to head such an institution. Similarly, with military you can’t just take a female and make her CDS. It is not easy.” He enumerated.

 It is however the dispensation of the government to ponder on the choice of an IGP in view of wide discourse with the stakeholders.

DCOP Akrofi concluded that if a woman is hereby designated afterwards, she will be supported.
