The outgoing Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has on Wednesday stated reasons why he won’t be present at the inauguration of his substitute, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning by Ambode’s Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruba, the outgoing governor explained that Sanwo-Olu deserves to enjoy his historic day without him sharing the glory with him.
According to the statement, he said: “I have already formally handed over reins of power in the State to the new Governor in a most cordial and convivial ceremony at the State House yesterday.
“The formal inauguration should have Mr. Sanwo-Olu as the star of the day. I don’t think that glory should be shared with him by my presence”.
Ambode couldn’t go for second term since he lost his primaries last year in the party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu’s backed successor to Ambode, Sanwo-Olu, emerged winner and also defeated Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the general governorship elections in the state.
