Ogun State command of the Nigeria Police have recovered cash and valuables worth over N69.3 million as well as 1,279 arms and ammunition from criminal suspects.

CEOAFRICA news correspondent gathered from the statement of the command that 41 suspected armed robbers lost their lives during gun duel with the police while 1,337 suspects were arrested for various offences including robbery, kidnapping and advanced fee fraud between January and July this year.

The command also claimed to have arrested eight adults in connection with rape cases within the period under review, adding that a total of 368 suspects have so far been charged to court out of which only 68 have been convicted.

The command public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, at the state police headquarters in Abeokuta, said the operatives were able to achieve the feat due to effective policing mechanisms adopted by the command.

Adejobi however pointed out that the increasing rate of rape in Nigeria is blowing out of proportion, stressing that the cases recorded in Ogun were even minimal compared to other commands across the country, calling on parents and guardians to be watchful and adequately protect their wards.

The police spokesman urged the residents not to hesitate in reporting strange and suspicious movements to the police and other security agencies for quick and effective action.
