14 suspected terrorists murdered by Egyptian police

14 suspected terrorists had been murdered by Egyptian police for involving in a checkpoint assault that left eight policemen dead in North Sinai province, the country’s Interior Ministry said early Thursday.

Nothing less than eight police officers were on Wednesday murdered when terrorists targeted a checkpoint south of Arish.

Five of the terrorists were murdered in exchange of fire while the rest of them fled the scene.

"The militants were later located at an abandoned home... in Arish [city]," the ministry said.

Security forces paraded the abode and murdered 14 insurgents in Thursday's shootout.

The Wednesday assault has been claimed by Daesh terrorist group.

The Sinai Peninsula has remained the epicentre of a militant insurgency since 2013, when the army ousted Mohamed Morsi -- Egypt's first freely elected president and a Muslim Brotherhood leader -- in a military coup.
