Three persons have been murdered as they staged alongside hundreds of others in Gurin, a community in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, against enforcement of ban on the use of motorcycles.

The Nigeria Police, supported by the state government and citing security reason, had last month declared a ban on the use of motorcycles across the state, but demonstrators stormed out Thursday morning in Gurin to protest against the authorities for enforcing the ban, resulting in the shooting of six and leading to the death of three.

A settler of Gurin who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said the people were farmers and needed motorcycles to get to their farms and to transport their farm produce to markets.

“The people are particularly angry that the same motorcycles that they are not allowed to use are being freely used by the military and other security personnel who don’t need them as much as we do,” the resident said.

The Adamawa State Police command attested that there was unrest in Gurin but could not speak on the casualty figure.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya, reportedly said that the demonstrators went to the house of the district head of Gurin and bulldozed the windows of his house, but that police officers and men sent to probe the unrest were yet to report casualty figures.
