Benue state Governor Samuel Ortom, has sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives, in a tanker explosion in the state.
CEOAfrica had earlier reported that several persons were burnt beyond recognition and many vehicles destroyed in a tanker explosion that occurred along Ahumbe-Makurdi road, Benue state.
Over 26 persons were on Monday burnt while scooping oil after the petroleum-laden tanker fell and spilled its content on the road.
Reacting, Ortom in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Ortom expressed sadness over the loss of lives.
He described the incident as painful and devastating.
The statement read: “Governor Samuel Ortom is deeply saddened by the loss of many lives in the petrol tanker fire today at Ahumbe, Gwer East Local Government Area.
“The Governor describes the incident as quite painful and devastating.
“He consoles families of those who lost their lives in the inferno and prays God to grant them eternal rest.
“Governor Ortom assures survivors of the fire that the State Government will assist in payment of their medical bills.”
