A fugitive terrorist reportedly blew himself up shortly before Tuesday midnight at the metro station Cité Intilaka in Tunis, Tunisia capital, after police officers surrounded him, an interior ministry spokesman said.
Authorities on July 1 had issued an arrest warrant for the 23-year-old Aymen Smiri.
The man refused to surrender to police and blew himself up, officials said.
Smiri, according to the interior ministry spokesman, Sofiene Zaag, was about to carry out a terror attack against security forces.
Zaag, however, said nobody else was injured in the explosion, denying reports that Smiri was with a woman and that he was dressed in women's clothes (with a burka).
According to local media, the deceased was wanted in connection with two suicide attacks carried out on June 27 in the capital.
