Chrisland University
The COVID-19 lockdown has become a blessing in disguise for Chrisland University as it has set a pace in the Academic sector through the use of a brand new Management System (LMS) in its HP- Classera for the conduct of its virtual exam with the University being the first ever to benefit from it, and to run the LMS in Nigeria.
The Head of Department (HOD) of Physics Sciences, Dr. Matthew Alabi who in a statement to CEOAFRICA disclosed that the lockdown has proven to people that there are better and alternate ways of doing things especially through the online channel used to teach the students at home, called for the need to develop the online teaching initiative for future purposes.
Dr. Alabi stated that since virtual class revolves around the ICT, Government should look into investing in the ICT for the better teacher-learner experience. He cited an example of the government’s sensitivity to the development of the ICT in South Africa where it provided data to teachers and students for the swift running of the virtual classes.
He however stressed that there’s an urgent need for the government’s intervention due to the fact that there are schools in Nigeria having challenges with constant power supply, low network coverage due to location, inability to fund data cost, and poor functional E-learning facilities.
In his suggestions on the way forward, Dr. Alabi said both staff and students should be well equipped and there should be ICT support funds to private institutions.
While speaking on the LMS experience, HOD of Business Administration said it has been a fantastic experience that has aided the University in solving their problems. He also added that it cannot replace the physical experience.
