The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) National President Comrade Ayuba Waba said that all the airports under concession by the government are viable and they will resist every attempt by the Federal Government of Nigeria to privatize the airports.
He made this statement at a peaceful rally organised by the union workers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) today August 31 st 2020 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The rally was put together by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN) Abuja, National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) Abuja, and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (FAAN Branch) Abuja are all synergizing with their sister counterparts nationwide who are observing the peaceful protest march at the 4 major airports today.
The workers are saying “NO” to the concession of these 4 major airports namely: Murtala Mohmammed Internatioinal Airport Ikeja, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano and the Port Harcourt International Airport Port Harcourt. They made it clear that it is our common asset and it must not be privatized.
Comrade Ayuba also added that privatizing the national assets is not in the interest of the workers and the general public as the general public will also suffer the brunt of privatization as a result of increase in the cost of services.
He added that the Nigerian Labour Congress has joined the fight with their Airport counterparts against privatization to show their solidarity, and they will not rest until their demands are met.
