The Akwa Ibom State government has said that the multi-billion naira Ibaka deep sea port in Mbo Local Government Area of the state would be executed through Public Private Partnership.

The Ibaka seaport is about six nautical miles away from the ocean with a sea tough of 15 metres.

Governor Godswill Akpabio made the disclosure at the weekend in Uyo, the state capital, when the chairman of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Sen. Ken Nnamani, paid him a visit.

He said the state government acquired 14, 900 hectares of land for the project while lauding the involvement of Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Com-mission.

Akpabio said the commission rekindled hope on the realization of the seaport and called on it to partner the state on the construction of a dual carriage way on the Uyo-Aba road.

 “We have worked really hard to fast track the emergence of Ibaka deep seaport, which has a free trade zone.  The port will change the matrix of the unemployed in the country. It will also attract investors  to the state,” he said.

In his speech, chairman of ICRC, Senator Ken Nnamani, commended Akpabio for what he called his developmental strides.
