60th Independence: Shun illegal gatherings, protest on October 1st, Police boss warns Nigerians

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Adeleye Oyebade has warned residents across the South-West  Zone to shun all illegal gatherings, protests or rallies tomorrow, Thursday, October 1st, when the country would be marking her 60th Independence Anniversary.

DIG Oyebade, made this known today when he visited Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan.

The police boss warned some Nigerians that are hell-bent on staging a rally on the Independent Anniversary Day, to desist from such act.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-West zone while briefing journalists at the Command said that the Police will make sure that there is adequate security for the masses across the southwest geo political zone of the Country in order to enjoy the 60th Anniversary celebration.

He said, “I’m here on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP. Adamu Muhammed, who asked me to deliver a message that will be of great benefits to you all.

“IGP ordered me to tell you that he wants a peaceful Independent Anniversary celebration across all States, he said, all the parents should tell their children and also warned them to stay at home and celebrate the Independent Anniversary on a peaceful note and not to allow themselves to be use for any rally or protest or gathering for whatever purposes.

“Nigeria Police Force is committed towards ensuring that the Independent Anniversary go on a peaceful note, we are going to deploy our tactical teams to various areas known as Black Spots, and we will not take it slightly with any individual or groups that are ready to make use of the day to launch an attack on the innocent Nigerians.

DIG Oyebade also noted that, all the flash points across all the southwest will be well lace up with Policemen, just to ensure safer Independent Anniversary celebration.

He said, “Nigeria is older than all of us here and we must respect her for that. We want all Nigerian to have a peaceful Independent Anniversary celebration.

“You are free to go to recreation centers with your loved ones or clubhouse with your friends; the Police will not harass anyone for doing so because we want you to enjoy the day. But we are not going to allow people to use the day to foment or cause trouble on the day we ought to be celebrating.”
