A police inspector has been shot dead and two critically injured as armed protestors stormed the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the command in Surulere, Lagos State.

Confirming the story, the command Public Relation officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday said the protestors broke in and made away with two kidnap case suspects.

He added that in the course of the attack, Inspector Erinfolami Ayodeji with AP No 251138 was shot dead while Inspector Ekei Joshua with AP No175493 and Inspector Peter Agabi with AP No 251138 were critically injured and have been rushed to the Lagos State Teaching hospital.

Adejobi further said that the protestors fired and killed a 55-year-old driver Ikechukwu Ilohamauzo who got stock in the traffic caused by the protests.

The commissioner of police, CP Hakeem Odumosu while speaking on the matter, urged protesters to be peaceful and cease violent attacks on the police and other security personnel as well as to avoid blocking access roads.

However, four suspects have been arrested and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos State for further investigation.
