Anambra’s industrial hub, Nnewi on Thursday got a baptism of fire as EndSARS protesters unleashed mayhem on the town, burning down the Central Police Station and freeing inmates from the police cells.
It was a spill over of candle light procession held the previous day.
They arrived the station on Thursday morning and set the entire blocks at the station ablaze.
They also looted the station, making away with motorcycles, vehicles and other valuables.
Faily Independent learnt that there was no resistance as the police personnel ran for their dear lives.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Izuchukwu Uba, said: “It was Wednesday that they wanted to hold the protests, but security personnel were everywhere in Nnewi, so, they converged in the night and did their protest.
“They also burnt INEC office and police quarters in Nnewi, in addition to burning the Central Police Station. Go to the INEC office and the police staff quarters and see to yourself,” he said.
The Divisional Police Officer of the CPS, Nnewi, Harrison Nnandi Anabike, could not pick his calls or replied text messages sent to his cell phone.
