The International Women Project Ambassador, Mrs. Lucy Adewuyi, has called on women and girl-children, most especially the physically challenged to participate in the maiden International Women Swimming Championship organized by Women Awards Championship International and Nigeria Aquatics Federation, in collaboration with the African First Ladies Peace Mission to honour the First Lady of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs Aisha Buhari and wives of the governors of the 36 states.

She made this call in an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA recently, at the unveiling of the trophy by the wife of the President in Abuja.

While reacting to questions, she said the competition is geared towards ensuring unity, cooperation, love and care as the initiative is set to empower the woman and the girl child.

“When you empower a woman or the girl child, the society will be sane”, she said, and added that women should come forward and assist their husbands in order to make good homes.

Mrs. Lucy noted that the maiden edition of the Swimming Championship is meant for the women with disabilities. “When you are making a disabled woman to swim, you know what that means? It is like encouraging them. Sometimes, they are even better off than those who have two legs, because they do what others cannot do.”

The Ambassador epitomized women for their critical role in the economic and social development of the world, reiterating the saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do better.”

Ambassador Lucy however, appealed for support of a girl child education in the society for productivity in the nation';s development.

To achieve this, she said all hands must be on deck, and urged the First Lady to support the initiative financially, morally, spiritually, socially, physically and emotionally.

In view of the success recorded by the First Lady’s humanitarian activities, Amb. Lucy said, “What the organizers are expecting from her Excellency is her motherly cooperation in whatever way in order to ensure the voice of the women folk is heard.”
