In a euphoric yuletide celebration, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, on Thursday 17th December 2020 held her Christmas Carols and Concert in a grand style at the University Auditorium with the theme “Christ our Ruler.

The Christmas Carol which witnessed presentations from the students who gave melodious rendition of different songs, admonitions among others had in its attendant prominent personalities from within and outside the citadel of higher learning.

The annual event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Mrs. Chinedum Peace Babalola who was exultant to share the joyous day with the students and staff of the university.

In her speech to the ecstatic congregation at the Christmas Carol, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola stated that the theme of the 2020 Christmas Carol and Concert “Christ the Ruler” is a clarion call for a reflection on the reason for Christ’s birth and its expression in everyone’s lives, stressing that the birth of Christ exemplifies love, peace, joy, blessings and giving. She also charged that Christmas calls for true sacrifice for others; rendering service and possessing a feeling of universal brotherhood.

“Jesus was born to be a savior of the world; savior from sin, evil, problem. Man is with all sort of problems, so Jesus actually came to save the world to bring peace, joy, blessing, so that is why we celebrate him,” she enthused.

Speaking with CEOAFRICA, the Vice-Chancellor said despite the COVID-19 that ravaged the world this year, everyone should give glory and appreciate God for the gift of life. “Praise God that we are alive today after all the things that has happened in 2020, we should praise God and join the angels in praises, because Jesus is still alive and he can still see,” she added.

“COVID-19 came with a lot of challenges, but it also came with a lot of innovations, victories, successes’ part of it is being able to have virtual programmes at Chrisland University,” she maintained.

Speaking further, Prof, Babalola in her goodwill message culled her inspiration from Luke Chapter 2 vs 13-14, which says “Glory be to God in the highest peace on earth to men of Goodwill.”

She, however enjoined the congregation to spread peace, goodwill, and good news to everyone in this yuletide and beyond, adding that Christmas is not a time to be gloomy but a time to look back in gratitude to God because the Lord has been good.

On her part, the Chancellor of the Prestigious University, High Chief Dr. (Mrs.) Winifred Awosika extended her gratitude to God for the gift of life and for the lives of the students, management and staff of the University. She prayed, “this coming year (2021) will be a fruitful year for all of us.”

She however congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof, Babalola and all staff for all the successes they have recorded in the year 2020, thereby wishing everybody happy Christmas and prosperous new year.

Rev. Canon Tunji Oyeleye, in his sermon explained the A to Z of Jesus Christ, whom he described as the author and finisher, the beginning and the end of all things.

Rev. Tunji took his sermon from Micah 5:2 which goes thus: “But thou, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

Speaking on the theme “Chris our Ruler,” the Preacher said Jesus Christ is represented from A to Z, quoting the verse of the Bible that says “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and God was the word,”

“If God was the word, we would look at what constitute the word and what makes the word, the word,” he said.

While he was addressing the congregation, the Reverend said the word ‘A’ connotes that Jesus Christ is the Almighty, the advocate and the adjudicator. “When there is anybody that would take anything from anyone, it would be the Almighty, because he is the advocate before the Lord God Almighty.”

Rev. Tunji however uses the event to beseech Christian faithful not to worship any other god except the Almighty God through Jesus Christ the Ruler, the defender, the immortal, the invisible, among other qualities

Highpoints of the event were the various Christmas carols, special songs and dance from both students and staff of the great institution.
