The Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Prof. Mrs. Chinedum Peace Babalola has called on federal government and stakeholders at all levels to take urgent action on youth empowerment and education to curb the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Prof. Babalola who made the call in her 2020 Christmas Message to Nigerians, tagged “The Way forward” decried that the alarming rate of insecurity and insurgency in the country is devastating and uncalled for, adding that the only solution is to empower the Youth.

I urged the Nigerian government to see Youth empowerment as a means to solving Nigeria’s insecurity, she said.

She stressed the importance of creating the enabling environment for gainful employment as part of everlasting solution to the problem.

“No doubt, the Federal Government is doing a lot in terms of fighting against insurgency but you cannot fight it effectively when there is hunger and poverty in the land.”

“If we want to fight insurgency, we should look for ways to empower the youth,” she added.

The Vice-Chancellor then urged Nigerians to embrace peace, love and unity as that guarantee national development.

In the same vein, she called on all stakeholders, including Religious bodies to do more in preaching against ills in the society.

She also charged government to create an enabling environment starting with proper education and youth empowerment.

She however extended her gratitude to God Almighty for the gift of life and for surviving the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the entire world, adding that Nigerians should use this time to show love, peace and goodwill so as to foster unity and development in the country.
