On Tuesday, first case of the new COVID-19 variant was recorded in Iran.

The information was unveiled by the Health Minister of Iran, Saeed Namaki, in a televised address, that “Sadly, the first instance of the mutated British Covid-19 was detected in one of our compatriots who had arrived from England.

“The patient has been admitted to a private hospital, and our extensive testing showed the virus was of the mutated type.”

Namaki disclosed that no traces of the virus were detected among family members and acquaintances as the concerned individual had been self-isolated upon arrival.

According to experts, it is announced that the new strain potentially spreads faster than the original variant; consequently, has prompted travel restrictions on the United Kingdom by more than 50 countries, including Iran.

It has also been confirmed that the Islamic republic has officially recorded 55,748 deaths and 1,255,620 cases.
