Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has prohibited the importation of COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by the United States and United Kingdom into his country.
The supreme leader in a televised statement on Friday, made it known that he has no trust in the vaccines coming out from the two countries since the countries’ COVID-19 cases keep increasing.
He stated that, “If their Pfizer factory can manufacture a vaccine, then why do they want to give it to us?
“They should consume it themselves so that they would not experience so many deaths. The same goes with the UK.”
“Importing vaccines made in the US or the UK is prohibited. They are untrustworthy. It is not unlikely they would want to contaminate other nations. Given our experience with France’s HIV-tainted blood supplies, French vaccines aren’t trustworthy either,” he added.
It is said that Iran Government is on the work of securing 16.8million doses of vaccines from COVAX, a global vaccine under the watch of World Health Organisation (WHO).
