Dr. Isa Pantami
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, has revealed that registration process for the National Identification Number (NIN) may be reviewed if the Federal Government declares another lockdown amidst second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Pantomi disclosed this on Friday on Channels television programme.
“If a second lockdown is enforced, then, the ministerial taskforce including National Identity Management Commission ( NIMC) and all mobile network operators will sit immediately and review NIN linkage to SIM cards excercise.
“So, when there is a second lockdown, as citizens, we must respect the Federal Government’s directives. When there is any announcement, we will come back to the drawing board immediately and review the whole thing. But now, it has not been announced and Covid-19 guidelines are to be respected,” he said.
The Federal Government had ordered that telecom subscribers with NIN have till January 19 to link their NIN with their SIM cards while subscribers without NIN have the ultimatum of February 9 to do the same.
