From L-R Presidents Xi Jinping of China and Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya
President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has signed a deal worth $5bn with China during his first visit to the country since his election in March, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
The deal, according to sources, would enable Kenya to build a railway line, an energy project and to improve wildlife protection.
Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping of China expressed optimism in the leadership ability of Kenyatta. “Mr. Kenyatta’s vigour would lead Kenya to greater accomplishments,” he said.
This was part of measures Mr.Kenyatta adopts to strengthen ties with the East, following his strained relationship with the West. He currently faces trial for allegedly fuelling violence after the 2007 elections in Kenya.
Both European Union and U.S have expressed before he was elected, their intention to have limited contact with Kenyatta, if he was voted into office.
He accused EU and U.S of interfering with Kenya’s internal affairs and promised not to have anything to do with them should they continue the interference.
