Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El- Rufai, has said the establishment of ranches in states and provision of incentives will resolve the herder-farmer crises in Nigeria.

The Governor, on Tuesday in Yola, state capital of Adamawa, added that open grazing of livestock is no longer realistic.

He disclosed that Northern Governors have resolved to establish one ranch in each state of the region and provide incentives to convince herders to start ranching their livestocks for improved production of milk and healthy animals.

He, on this note, urged Southwest Governors to emulate the same, protect residents in their states and prosecute criminals irrespective of their ethnicity or religion.

El-Rufai further explained that the ranching system will enable children of herders to go to school and have access to quality education like any other Nigerians.

“I’m a Fulani man, today I’m the governor of Kaduna State because I went to school; my parents were settled in one place breeding their livestocks,” he stated.

However, the Governor admitted that for Northern Governors to achieve their dreams in establishing ranches, the financial assistance of the Federal Government would be needed.
