It was gathered from Cairo that 100 members of the Muslim Brotherhood was arrested yesterday, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
This follows the arrest of group leader, Mohammed Badie, an act described by the Freedom and Justice Party as “trumped up.”
Speaking to journalist, a lawyer for the Muslim Brotherhood Ali Kamal, said, "It is well-known that all the charges brought against the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated political party, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) as well as the leaders of the Anti-Coup, Pro-Democracy National Alliance are implausible fabricated charges with no legally acceptable evidence. What they are facing is nothing but political trumped up charges thinly painted with criminal colours."
One of those arrested is Safwat Hegazy, another prominent member of the group.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Muslim Brotherhood, Ahmed Arif made clear the intention of the group to persist in their protest. He stated it in clear terms that arresting Baide and other prominent members of Muslim Brotherhood is not the end of the group.
Sources disclosed that Badie will be detained for 15 days for investigation on accusations of inciting violence and killing protesters,The detention could be extended, as has been done with ousted President Mohamed Morsy.
Mahmoud Ezzat, was named supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood on a temporary basis.
