Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has said one splinter group is responsible for the abduction of the over 300 students of Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara state.

He added that the Zamfara bandits he met are different from this splinter group.

Recall that CEOAFRICA reported bandits attacked Government Secondary School Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area around 1am Friday and abducted over 300 female students.

Zamfara Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, confirmed the abduction to News Agency of Nigeria but could not confirm the number of the students abducted as at press time.

Gumi had earlier today, said he would update the media on the abduction of the schools girls.

He said the abduction was carried out by a splinter group of the Zamfara bandits.

“They are not the ones that abducted the girls. It is a splinter group,” he disclosed.

The renowned Islamic scholar and his delegation had met with bandits at Sububu forest and Pakai forests.
