Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the ambassadorial appointments of the immediate ex-Service Chiefs till they are found clean from the allegation of the missing arms money under their watch.

Falana in his short statement also called on the President to refer the case to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.

He stated that “A probe is wasteful, diversionary and unwarranted. The case should be referred to the EFCC for investigation because it is a serious economic crime.

“The report of the Presidential Panel on Arms Procurement which probed the looting of $15 billion earmarked for purchase of arms was eventually forwarded to the EFCC.

“The ambassadorial appointments of the ex-service chiefs have to be suspended by President Buhari until they account for every dime of the fund.”

Recall that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, said on Friday that billions were spent on procurement of weapons with the supplies not met on ground by the new service chiefs.

Monguno, during a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service interview, revealed that the new service chiefs did not meet weapons for which the money was approved when they assumed office.

He said “We don’t know where the money went to. The president has given out money for equipment but they are not seen on ground.”

However, Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, contradicted the NSA, saying that that no money  was missing, although the procured weapons had not been fully delivered.
