FRSC sets to collaborate with Chrisland University on road safety education

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed readiness to work together with Chrisland University to educate staff and students of the institution on road safety education.

The call for the partnership was made known during the advocacy visit of the Sector Commander, FRSC, Ogun State, Corps Commander Ahmed Umar alongside his team to the Vice -Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Chinedum Peace Babalola at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference room on Wednesday.

 The collaboration, which will include orientation for University drivers, issuance of genuine driver’s license for members of the University community, among others, would be the first to take place in Chrisland University.

Umar said “The visit to Chrisland makes it the first visit to Universities in Ogun State.

“And it is to create a synergy between FRSC and Chrisland University.”

He added that “the collaboration would involve fleet registration, regular sensitization lectures on transport/safety policies, training and re-training of drivers, interview and screening exercise for applicant drivers, and other mutual collaboration.”

The Corps Commander reiterated the importance of obedience to driving rules, emphasizing the need to preach the message of safety to the consciousness of road users.

He therefore commended the University for traffic management on campus, and for keeping a serene environment.

In her remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babalola lauded the efforts of the Corps in ensuring the safety of road users.

She also advocated the need of conducting test for learners before the issuance of driver’s license

“The execution of virtual exams would provide safe means of producing good drivers in order to reduce the rate of road accidents,” she said.

Babalola, while expressing the readiness of the University to partner with the FRSC, called the attention of the Corps to the state of the horrific road leading to the University.

She noted that the road has claimed many lives.

The Corps Commander Umar thereby promised that the Corps would assist the University in reducing the rate of road accidents in the University environs.
