The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency has declared its support for the Senate President, Sen. David Mark and his leadership of the senate. This was made known by the Executive Director of the Centre, Mr. Folarin Odusote in a media chat with journalist in Abuja yesterday.

Mr. Odusote who described the senate president as “a pillar upon which todays democracy now stands” condemned reports in the media drawing allusions to the fact that David Mark was against elections in 2015. 

According to him, the Centre which has studied the transition of Mark from military to civilian and political sphere believes he is a true believer of democracy and thus such words cannot be ascribed to a statesman of such high standing. 

The Director further chided the publication for what he termed “quoting an honest man out of context”. 

Recalling various democratic feats of the senate President, Odusote, reminded Nigerians of the concept of necessity which was employed my Mar to save the nation during the Yar Adua years of controversy.

“this is clearly an act of mischief, by quoting an honest man out of context the publication, no doubt had ulterior and sinister motives. This we do not need in this era of violence. The senate president said what he did in response to the violence n the North east but that publication in its usual manner tried to misrepresent his honest intentions”. He said.

Odusote, advised Nigerians to see the proof in Mark’s belief in the concept of democracy through his leadership and disposition at the Senate. 

He also noted that because of his sterling qualities he has been able to keep peace in the senate and remains the nation’s longest serving senate president ever.
