The police in Akwa Ibom has paraded suspected killer of Miss Iniubong Umoren, Mr. Uduak Ezekiel Akpan.

Recall that it was rumoured on social media that 20-year- Akpan, who allegedly lured Miss Umoren with a job offer and subsequently raped and killed her, had committed suicide in police custody.

Following reports of the suicide, some individuals and groups had accused the police of foul play and attempt to cover up the crime.

But Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, on Thursday dispelled the suicide rumour, describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.

“It is not true that Uduak Akpan has committed suicide. The suspect is in our custody. May be he committed suicide in the bedrooms of those peddling the rumour” Amiengheme said.

The decision to parade the suspect is a move by the police to prove that Akpan is not dead and it is not trying to cover up the crime as alleged in some quarters.
