The workers’ union of the six campuses of the Osun State University have on Wednesday, commenced an indefinite strike, bringing activities in the institution to an abrupt halt.
CEOAFRICA new correspondent has gathered that the workers with the support of the Joint Action Congress had declared the indefinite strike following the failure of the state government to pay the workers entitlement.
Unions participating in the strike are: The Senior Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University; Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Institutions; and the National Association of Academic Technologists.
The NASU Chairman, Mr. Isaiah Fayemi, who addressed members of the three unions at the congress held after the peaceful protest, said the management of the university had met with the state government on behalf of the workers but their efforts had not yielded positive result.
However, according to the communiqué issued, the workers are insisting that the government must meet their demands.
