Saturday, 22 May 2021: As electorates in Oyo State troop out today to elect councilors and chairmen into all the wards and 33 local government areas in the pacesetter state, CEOAFRICA checks indicated that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, just voted at about 11:30 a.m in his ward in Ibadan North east local government.
After casting his vote, the Governor urged all the residents and citizens in all the 33 local government councils in the state to exercise their franchise.
He urged people to come out en masse to elect their representatives at the grassroot. He said this would be their own contribution to the sustenance of democracy.
Also, apart of well kitted security men in virtually all the polling units, we gathered that plain cloth and under-covered security men are in polling units to ensure hitch free polls.
Reports indicated that elections are peaceful in most of the local councils in the pacesetter state, though there are indications that thugs have invaded Eruwa and Lanlate in Ibarapa zone, carting away ballot papers. Some citizens were hurt in the process and they have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Similarly, report indicated disruption in the conduct of local councils elections in Ijeru and Oke Elerin ward 3 in Ogbomosho North local government council, residents in the areas have therefore called on the Oyo state police command to deploy another detachment of anti-riot policemen there to calm fray nerves.
CEOAFRICA gathered that youths and those yet to attain the age of voting were seen turning the streets, roads and highways to football fields to exercise themselves as roads were devoid of vehicular movement as a results of the restriction of movement of people and vehicles.
