Police Raids Hospital Turned Baby Factory In Abia

The Abia State Police Command has paraded two nurses and four pregnant inmates, among whom was one with a two year old baby, disclosing that they were rescued during a raid of a hospital allegedly used as baby factory.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna , who paraded the suspects in Umuahia, noted that men of the Command were still on the trail of the Medical Director of the private hospital located at Ihie Umudem Isuochi in Umunneochi council of the state who fled during the raid.

According to him, the fleeing doctor, whose name was not given, and the nurses were using the hospital as shelter for young women with unwanted pregnancy only to buy off the babies upon delivery and in turns sell them to willing buyers.

He gave the name of one of the inmates with a little baby as Sopuruchi from Eneka in Port Harcourt , Rivers State, explaining that efforts were on to re- unite the inmates whom he added were all non Abians, with their family members.

The Police Command warned dubious medical practitioners and charity homes in the state who use their facilities as baby factories to desist from the wicked act or face the wrath of the law.

Also paraded were some suspected kidnappers and robbers arrested at different parts of the state, disclosing that constant weekly raid of suspected criminal hideouts in the state had led to the arrest of over 150 suspects since August.

The PPRO noted that about 50 had been arraigned in court while those arrested with drug- related offenses were referred to the Enugu zonal office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

He revealed that officers and men of the command had adopted several proactive measures and strategies to curb criminal activities in the state as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach.

The police spokesman informed that the police had rescued unhurt, one kidnap victim, Ugo Charles Ajieke of Power Line in Obingwa council of the state who was abducted last week at the gate to his compound.

The State Command restated its readiness to rid Abia State of criminal elements and provide maximum security for all residents. He requested for useful information as regards the location of hoodlums in the state.
