A female graduate of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Otunla Oyeronke, has been murdered after she was reportedly raped by unknown persons.

Oyeronke’s body was found inside a gutter at Iddo Sarki in the federal capital territory over the weekend.

Olajide Olatubosun, a member of the House of Representatives who announced the sad development on Monday, promised to ensure justice for the victim.

Writing via his Twitter handle, the lawmaker described the death of Oyeronke who is from his constituency in Oyo state, as “tragic and heartbreaking”.

“I feel a deep sense of loss that a promising young lady will be so gruesomely murdered. I commiserate with her immediate family, her friends, colleagues and all the people of my constituency,” he wrote.

“For this matter to be investigated and justice served, I’ll bring a motion at the next Plenary of the House.”

Yusuf Mariam, spokesperson of the FCT police command, has been contacted for comments regarding the incident.

Nigeria has continued to witness incessant cases of sexual violence against women in recent months, with justice often delayed for victims.

Three weeks ago, Iniubong Umoren, a female job seeker in Akwa Ibom was raped, murdered and buried in a shallow grave.

Uduak Akpan, a key suspect in the murder case, later confessed that he killed Umoren after luring her with a fictitious job.
