Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State was on Monday given a shocking reception by the women of Sanga Local Government Area of the state while reacting to the series of killings recorded in the area.
The governor, who paid a visit to the ‘killing field’ in the troubled Southern Kaduna region months after the tragedy that befell the people, sparked a protest from angry women, who marched naked and accused governor Yero of negligence and poor leadership. This was made known by Barrister Sunday Ugah, an indigene of Sanga local government, residing in the United States, but currently in Nigeria in an e-mail sent to SaharaReporters. Ugah, who sent pictures and details of Yero’s visit to Fadan Karshi, a community where gunmen mercilessly killed over 40 people, also revealed that attempts from prominent politicians to halt the protest proved abortive, as the protesting women alleged that the governor was on a political campaign and not a condolence visit.
Below are some excerpts from the e-mail:
“It is absolute nonsense that, since March to date, about 1,000 people have been killed in Southern Kaduna. [The governor] never came until today, in the name of last week killings, but we all know it is for political reasons. He came in company of hundreds of security personnel. We have no business with his politics, but we will speak in the ballot.
