Thursday, 3rd June 2021: Some armed men Wednesday evening struck in Ikire and Apomu in Irewole and Isokan local government areas of Osun State, killing at least five persons in Ikire after attacking two new generation banks and a police station.

CEOAFRICA gathered that the armed robbers had earlier robbed a bank in Apomu town around 5:00 p.m. before proceeding to Ikire where they killed three persons at a commercial bank’s Automated Teller Machine, (ATM).

Two other persons were said to have been killed in the community during the sporadic shooting.

The robbers were said to have entered Apomu and Ikire through Ikoyi town and divided themselves into different groups before they launched an attack on the police stations and the affected banks.

An eyewitness living in Apomu, who preferred anonymity, said he heard sporadic shootings around 5:30 pm near the premises of a commercial bank located in the Oke-Ola Area.

According to another resident of Ikire, simply identified as Oloruntoyin, the robbers attacked a bank near Akire’s palace, as well as Ayedaade Police Station.

He said the robbers later left the town and fled after some local hunters and police operatives engaged them in a gunfight.

A resident of Ikire, who simply identified himself as Sola, said: “The robbers came into the community around 5:55 p.m. and were shooting. I don’t know maybe they were able to enter the bank and cart away money but I am sure that some persons were killed.”

The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, while confirming the incident said she cannot confirm the casualty figure, but the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, is already at the scene of the incident.
